PROVO, Utah –With two of the top-four teams eliminated during first-round action of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men's volleyball tournament, the semi-final round is set to begin on Thursday, April 29 in the Smith Fieldhouse.

No. 2 Long Beach State will take on No. 9 USC at 5 p.m. (MDT), followed by top-ranked BYU and No. 8 Hawai'i at 7:30 p.m. Reserved tickets are available by calling 1-800-322-BYU1 or locally at 378-BYU1.

In first-round action, USC knocked of highly-favored Pepperdine on the Waves' home court, 3-1, while Long Beach State easily dismissed No. 10 UC Irvine, 3-0. In perhaps the biggest upset of the evening, Hawai'i denied UCLA an opportunity to advance, 3-1, and eliminated any chance of the Bruins earning a berth to next month's NCAA Championship, which will be held on their homecourt.

Despite a balanced attack that had five Bruins with double digits in kills, the Rainbows collected a match-high 50 kills from Clay Stanley and added 21 from Andre Breuer.
BYU and Hawai'i met earlier this season, with the Cougars wrapping up a 3-1 victory in front of an NCAA record 14,156 fans in the Marriott Center. Thursday's game can be seen locally on a tape-delayed basis at 10 p.m. (MDT) on KBYU, ch. 11.
