PROVO, Utah –Eight teams begin play in the first round of the MPSF Tournament Saturday, April 24, as the top four seeds host the bottom four seeds in the first round of the single-elimination tournament. Top-ranked Brigham Young is the top seed and if the Cougars win their first-round match, they will host the semifinals and championship match, beginning April 29 and May 1, respectively. BYU (25-1) will take on Pacific (14-10) in its first-round matchup on Saturday at 7 p.m. (MDT). The Cougars defeated Pacific earlier this season in Provo, 3-1. The Tigers concluded the regular-season winning six of their last eight matches, including a five-game victory at Stanford to qualify as the final at-large team selected for the tournament. On Feb. 27, UOP defeated Long Beach State in three straight games. LBSU was the only team to beat BYU this season. The Cougars are led by middle blockers Ryan Millar, who led the nation in blocking (2.21 per game) and hitting (.497), and Mac Wilson, who was second in the MPSF in hitting (.477) and third in blocking (1.87 pg). Pacific is led by Vladimir Andric, who is ninth in the league in kills (5.75 pg) and sixth in aces (.458 pg). Other first-round matches include, UC-Irvine (14-10) at Long Beach State
(20-2), USC (15-10) at Pepperdine (20-4) and UCLA at Hawai'i.
