PROVO, Utah – Ryan Millar, a 6-7 middle blocker from top-ranked BYU, has been named the American Volleyball Coaches Association Men's National Player of the Week for leading the Cougars to four wins on the week, wrapping up their first-ever Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championship. BYU defeated then-No. 11 Loyola Marymount (3-0), Cal State Northridge (3-0) and UC Santa Barbara twice (3-1 and 3-0)during the Cougars' four-match road trip. In the win over the Lions, Millar hit .600 with 14 kills and added 10 blocks and four digs. He added 15 kills, 11 digs and eight blocks against the Matadors and finished the week with a combined 35 kills, 10 digs and 10 blocks in the two wins over the Gauchos. For the week, Millar hit .584 and averaged 4.9 kills, 2.2 blocks and 1.9 digs per game. Millar becomes the third player to win National-Player-of-the-Week honors for the Cougars this season, ranking BYU as the only team to receive the weekly honor more than twice this season. After winning four straight road matches last week, BYU remained atop
the USA Today/AVCA Coaches' Top-15 poll as well as the Volleyball Magazine
poll. For the second straight week, the Cougars received all 15 first-place
votes in the AVCA poll. BYU has spent a total of seven weeks as the nation's
top-ranked team.
