Source: BYU Press Release (4/7/99) http://www.byucougars.com NORTHRIDGE, Calif.–Hitting over .600 for the second consecutive night, All-American Ryan Millar put down 15 of 21 kills to lead the No. 1 BYU men’s volleyball team to a 15-9, 15-11, 15-4 win over Cal State Northridge on Wednesday. The Cougars’ 16th three-game win of the season improves their record to 23-1, 16-1 in MPSF action. Millar, who also led all players in blocks with eight, was backed up on the offensive end by three teammates hitting over 40 percent. Outside hitter Steve Hinds tallied 10-of-17 (.471), while Scott Bunker and Casey Jennings combined for 17 kills to hit .429 each. As a team, BYU hit a combined .380 while holding the Matadors to .155 on the night. The victory puts BYU, which maintains the best record in the MPSF this season, one step closer to hosting the league championship tournament. The Cougars must first win two matches against UC Santa Barbara as they close out the regular season against the Gauchos on Friday and Saturday. The Gauchos (9-12, 5-11) have won five of their last six matches. Match time is slated for 8 p.m. (MDT).
