PROVO, Utah – Following two straight, three-game victories over then-ranked No. 2 Pepperdine and with top-ranked Long Beach State losing to UC Irvine last week, the BYU men's volleyball team reclaimed the nation's top ranking in both the "Volleyball Magazine" and USA Today/AVCA Coaches' Top-15 Poll. The Cougars received all 16 first-place votes in the AVCA Coaches' Poll.

"If we continue playing the way we are capable of playing, there is no reason why we shouldn't stay No.1," head coach Carl McGown said. "However, we're not trying to be the No.1 team in the polls. We just want to win the national championship."
Before losing a five-game match to Long Beach State earlier in the season, the Cougars spent a total of five weeks atop the national polls – the longest tenure by any team in the country this season.

BYU (21-1) will travel to MPSF foe No. 11 Loyola Marymount (9-8) on Tuesday, before travling to Cal State Northridge (2-19) on Wednesday. The Cougars will conclude the 1999 regular season and the four-game, five-day road trip with a pair of matches at UC Santa Barbara (9-11) on Thursday and Friday.
