No. 1 Long Beach State was defeated last night in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) men's volleyball action by UC Irvine, 3-0.  By virtue of their loss, second-ranked BYU now holds the overall MPSF lead with a 14-1 record. (LBSU drops to 14-2.)

Should the Cougars win their final four road matches this season, beginning with an April 6 contest at No. 9 Loyola Marymount, the Cougars will not only host the first round of the MPSF Tournament, but would also possibly host the semi-finals and final round.

The top three teams in each division automatically qualify for the MPSF Tournament. The two teams with the next best records will qualify for at-large berths. If the two at-large teams are from the same division, the lower team plays the No. 1 team from its division. First-round matches are at the site of the higher seeded teams. The semifinals and finals will be hosted by the highest seed remaining after the first round.
