Exclusive to CougarFan.com The BYU Lacrosse team made good on its #1 national ranking over the weekend by winning the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Lacrosse League championship. The team defeated #7 Colorado in the semi-finals by a score of 19 - 9 on Friday before downing third ranked Colorado State 17 - 9 on Saturday. The team, which finished their 1999 campaign with a 13-2 record, went undefeated in league play for the third consecutive year. They also held the #1 ranking in each of the regular season polls throughout the season. Next up? The US Lacrosse Intercollegiate Associates National Championships in St. Louis, Missouri, next weekend. The Cougars get a bye in the first round, and will play the winner of Auburn and Cal on Thursday, April 29th at 12:30 p.m. CDT. Of the 12 teams heading to St. Louis for the playoff, BYU has a good chance of coming home with the title. The Cougars won the innaugural USLIA tournament in 1997 and lost an overtime heartbreaker in the championship game versus Cal last year. Coach Jason Lamb knows what kind of a squad he has this season. "We have an excellent chance to win it all again this year," he said.
