AUSTIN, Texas — Junior Andy Miller finished up strong at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate Tuesday by carding a final-round 69 to finish in third place with a 1-under 215. Miller helped BYU finish fourth among many of the nations highest ranked teams.

Georgia, ranked third nationally took the victory with a three-round total of 876. UNLV, ranked fifth, finished second at 885. Sixth ranked Houston came in at 887, with No. 11 BYU at 893 and No. 2 Oklahoma State at 897 rounding out the top five.

“Andy’s third place finish is excellent with this field of golfers,” said BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank. “The guys played really hard today. We were neck-to-neck with some of the best teams in the country.”

Georgia’s Ryuji Imada, ranked 13th in the nation, birdied the last two holes of competition to win the individual title with a three-round score of 213. Texas A&M’s Ryan Palmer was just one shot behind the winner at 214, and one shot ahead of BYU’s Miller. David Gossett of Texas, ranked No. 1 in the nation, tied with Adam Scott of UNLV in fourth at 216. 

Other BYU scores included Jose Garrido in 19th place at 225, Scott Miller in 21st at 226, Billy Harvey at 228 and Todd Miller at 241.

“All in all we played well,” Brockbank said. “We need to be a little more mentally tough and we’ll be in great shape.”

Next up for the Cougars will be the Carpet Classic Tournament in Dalton, Ga., on April 2-3.
