Pat Douglass (Head Coach, Irvine)

General comments on the game:  "I thought we made major strides tonight.  We're playing Brigham Young here at home where they've been beating people by 30.  I think we played pretty well."

About BYU's team: "I think Coach Cleveland is doing a great job.  Just a matter of time before he's on top of the [conference]."

Steve Cleveland

General comments about the game: "I know you don't believe me, but Irvine is a good team.  I know they are not a top 25 team, but we had to scratch and claw for everything tonight."

About the lack of energy:  "One thing that is taking its toll -- we've got Mekeli [Wesley], Silester [Rivers], and Terrell [Lyday] with the flu.  You could just tell there was no energy."

Game balls:  "To Nate Cooper and Michael Vranes.  They hung in there, competed and had energy.  It's what we needed to win tonight."

Where the team is:  "We're not a top 25 team yet.  We're a good team that are getting better."

About Matt Montague's sore Achilles tendon:  "He's really hurting.  He hasn't practiced all week.  When he's not on the floor we don't get easy transition baskets.  Hopefully he'll be able to help us in some capacity.  He may only be able to play in games [and not practice]."

What to expect from Utah State:  "A packed house.  They are as good a home court team as any in the state of Utah.  The matchups are not bad.  We just need to play with energy."

Nathan Cooper

About coming off the bench:  "It's just an attitude.  Todd [Christensen], Rivers and I try to come in and give the team a spark."

Terrell Lyday

How he feels:  "Horrible.  I feel real sluggish and out of it."

About Nate Cooper:  "Every time we need Nate, he steps up.  He can do it all."

About his scoring spree in the second half: "I'm kind of a streaky shooter.  If I make my first one, I'll make my next three."

Michael Vranes

About Nate Cooper:  "He came out with energy.  He was aggressive.  That's what we need.  He's a tough player and doesn't back down from anyone."

About the possibility of playing more point with Montague hurt:  "I'm comfortable with both positions.  Whatever we need, whatever the coach wants me to do, that's fine with me."
