May 14, 1999 PROVO–Catcher Ryan Freeman scored the first of six runs for BYU in the fourth inning Friday to break the game open as the Cougars defeated Utah, 16-7. With no outs in the fourth, Freeman was on third and teammate Shane Belliston had stolen second before Chris Circuit hit directly to pitcher Ryan Bailey. Bailey noticed Freeman had over-committed to home on the play and threw to third to get the Cougar catcher in the hot box. Freeman charged home as the toss from third glanced off his back and also allowed Belliston to score. Freeman also opened the seventh inning with a homer. The Cougars took a 3-0 lead in the first inning before Ute leftfielder Eric Wallace tied the game with a three-run homer in the third. It was Wallace’s 14th dinger of the season.
