Playoff possibilities hinge on BYU’s final six league games. The Cougars remain in ninth place for the second consecutive week and only the top six teams qualify for the WAC Tournament in Fresno, Calif., on May 19-22. “We need to stay alive in the WAC race and hope somebody does us a favor,” says BYU Coach Gary Pullins. “You are never in a good position by needing others to crumble.” The Cougars are scheduled to start junior Sean Noorda (2-2, 10.35) against Utah, Curtis Rodriguez (4-6, 6.20) Thursday against the Falcons, Jeremy Thomas (2-1, 7.88) in game one Saturday, and Jordan Opdahl (2-8, 8.94) in the nightcap. “We need to play as well at home as we have on the road. At Albuquerque, Honolulu, Las Vegas, Houston, Stillwater, and Fresno we have played well, but not at home with the exception of San Jose State.” BYU leads in the series with Utah, 166-75-1, dating back to 1955.
The Cougars have a 94-13 record against the Air Force, dating back to 1962.

Last weekend, the Cougars took a tough 3-2 loss in the 10-inning opener at Fresno State and only won the last of the three-game series against the Bulldogs. In that 8-6 victory, BYU scored seven runs in the first inning and broke an 11-game WAC losing streak. After the Air Force series, BYU hosts Utah in the final three-game WAC series of the regular season on May 13-15 (Thurs.-Sat.). Source: BYU Press Release
