Welcome to Superfans this year! We're glad to have you and look forward to your involvement with the club. First, a few things about the club.

This club was founded four years ago by a student, Adam Clark, who was bothered by the lack of loyal fan support here at BYU. Adam lived in Nebraska for many years and noticed their great football tradition. He also lived in Indiana and noticed the great support people gave to their Hoosiers (and on a smaller scale, Notre Dame and Purdue). He saw sporting events on television and noticed the sea of red in the stands for both Nebraska football and Indiana Hoosier basketball. Adam came to BYU during Fall 1994 and became a loyal BYU Athletics supporter. You know the adage...if you can't be an athlete, be an athletic supporter? That's Adam. He joined Cougar Pride, but that club soon disbanded.

Adam then decided to form his own club, separate from BYUSA and all their red-tape and regulations. He got a faculty member to be the department sponsor. That man was Norm Nemrow, professor of Accounting and almost as big a BYU fan as Adam. After a year, Adam finally got the Athletic Marketing Department to sponsor the club. This club is consistently the largest club on campus, even bigger than College Republicans (in Utah, and especially at BYU, that's big!). We average 1,000 members each year.

I am in my second year of leading this club. I was first involved in club leadership and then when Adam graduated, the club was placed on my shoulders. It's been a great experience, although stressful and tiring at times. But I can't ask for a better opportunity to serve BYU students and do it in a context I love, which is sports.

The club's purpose is to unite BYU fans all over campus (and the country) and to support BYU Athletics. One way we do that is to attend sporting events wearing BLUE! Not red (especially...comon, that's Utah's colors!), yellow, green, or Abercrombie and Fitch getups. Sporting events are not Ward Prayer/Stare, and we're not quite sure why people dress like it is. Another way we support BYU Athletics is to help market different sporting events. We are often enlisted to help our sponsor department, Athletic Marketing, in handing out fliers, Hogi Yogi mugs, etc. We expect each member to help out in these events. Those who do participate in these service opportunities will be rewarded handsomely.

I will send out a weekly email outlining sporting events, activities, and promotions happening on campus. These emails are vital for your information, especially if you hope to participate in the rewards program. They are usually entertaining (I try, at least) and very informative. Read your emails! I'll try to keep them somewhat short, unlike this letter.

The club also promotes good sportmanship in fans. We ask that you don't do dumb things this year at events. Don't throw things into onto the field, don't get in fights in the stands, be responsible. High school is over, and we simply ask that you act like it. Just use your head.

Thanks for joining the club. If you have any questions at any time, please email me. I will try to respond in a timely fashion to your request. Thanks for your support of BYU Athletics!

Go Cougars!
